Early morning along former waterfront, the Puente de la Mujur, Calatrava designed suspension bridge to the left, in Buenos Aires. This area was formerly the port area of the city, but is now a center of high-rise apartments and office buildings.

Mural in Palermo Soho Neighborhood

One of the many murals painted throughout the Palermo Soho and other neighborhoods in Buenos Aires. These murals began appearing in the 1980s, partially as a form of dissent against the military regime. They were painted with the consent of the property owners and many of the artist(s) have become famous for their work.

Interior, Cafe Tortoni

Interior of the Cafe Tortoni, on the Avenida de Mayo in downtown Buenos Aires, established in 1858. The cafe is the oldest coffee house in Argentina. While it is a favorite gathering place for locals in the morning, by mid-day the line to get in is full of tourists.

Carnival Dance Leader

Buenos Aires is trying to revive carnival celebrations which were surpassed by the military junta. Local neighborhood associations, murgas, have formed dance groups, and in days before Lent begins, and now dance in the streets in various neighborhoods. This young man leads his group, using his whistle and hand movements to direct the action.

Carnival Dancers

A group of dancers along Avenue Boedo in Buenos Aires dancing for the crowds watching from the sidewalks. These local groups, murgas, are like the crewes in New Orleans, although they only dance for a few blocks in about 30 minutes, before the next murga takes over the space. Nikon D700, 24mm, 1/10@f4
