The Fushimi-Inari Shinto shrine in the southern part of the city of Kyoto, Japan, is know for these torii that line the hillside above the main temple. Each of these arches honors or memorializes someone. The Japanese characters are carved on the other side of the torii shown here. This panoramic photograph was taken with a Hasselblad X-pan camera. This panoramic image taken with a Hasselblad X-pan camera typifies what I like about panoramic and wide angle photography. This picture is not just about the young girl with the red shoes standing in front of a shoe store, it is also about the reflections of the street in the diagonal window that draws the viewer into the frame. This picture was taken across the street from the main Takashimaya department store in Kyoto, Japan. Location: KYOTO, JAPANPhoto Number: 2833Click image to enlarge. |

This temple is one of the many located throughout the city of Kyoto, Japan. As the city was not fire bombed by the US during World War Two, Kyoto has more centuries-old temples than elsewhere in Japan. This night time panoramic photograph was created with a Hasselblad X-pan camera on a tripod. Location: KYOTO, JAPANPhoto Number: 2835Click image to enlarge. |

The temple of the Golden Pavilion, more formally know as the Kinkaku-ji, would seem to be an enduring symbol of the city of Kyoto, Japan, but the temple was in fact burned down in a 1950 arson attack. The vertical panoramic photograph was taken with a Hasselblad X-pan camera. Location: KYOTO, JAPANPhoto Number: 2832Click image to enlarge. |

Fushimi-Inari is a Shinto temple dedicated to the god of Rice, and many of the shrines that populate the grounds are dedicated to foxes, as shown here, as the foxes are the servants of the Rice God. This shrine is in the southern part of the city of Kyoto, Japan. This panoramic photograph was taken with a Hasselblad X-pan camera. Location: KYOTO, JAPANPhoto Number: 2831Click image to enlarge. |

It seems that every Japanese school child at some point comes to Nara on a school trip. The children are all dress alike and have come visit the giant bronze buddha in the Todai-ji (Eastern Great Temple) at the former Japanese capital city of Nara. This image was made with a Hasselblad X-pan camera. Location: NARA, JAPANPhoto Number: 2839Click image to enlarge. |
