Military officer saluting the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at the Plateia Syntagma in central Athens, Greece. The building to the rear is the National Parliament, built in 1842 as a palace for King Otto. In 1930 a figure of a dying Greek soldier was carved into the wall to create the Unknown Soldier memorial to all Greek soldiers who have died since independence.
