Terraced Rice Fields

With a shortage of arable land in the mountainous parts of northern Vietnam, the hillsides are extensively terraced so as provide enough rice to feed the local population. This view, taken from the road leading from the rail head at Lao Cai to Sa Pa, is typical of what can be seen throughout this area of Vietnam.
