The Riva, the waterfront promenade

The Riva, the waterfront promenade in Split, has many cafes along the wide sidewalk that fronts the harbor in this very well known resort town in Croatia along the Dalmatian coast. The modern looking apparatus in the photo contain awnings that are opened in the afternoon to shade the customers of the cafes as they sit in the chairs set out in front of the cafes.
